Krisztian Kulcsar of Hungary upset the world's top-ranked fencer, Eric
Boisse of France, 15-12 to win the Individual Men's Epee title today at the

Just a few rounds before, U.S. men's epeeist Seth Kelsey (26, Brush Prairie,
Wash.) lost a heartbreaker (15-14) to Boisse, who was the #3 seed for the
day, in his attempt to reach the quarterfinals. Kelsey finished tenth.
Ben Ungar (21, Bronx, N.Y.), one of Kelsey's U.S. teammates, reached the top
32 by defeating another U.S. comrade, Cody Mattern (26, Colorado Springs,
Colo.) in his first bout of the day.
Ungar lost his next match 15-14 to Jose Luis Abajo of Spain. The fourth U.S.
men's epeeist, Soren Thompson (26, San Diego, Calif), lost his bout in the
round of 64 to Denis Bade of Finland, also by the score of 15-14.
